We are a mission work...

which means it is a brand-new congregation in town. We don't own our own church building yet, nor will you find the full range of ministries which are common in a more established church of larger size. You will find a gathering of people who love the Lord Jesus Christ and are committed to having a healthy church for the sake of God’s kingdom expanding in Chester County. Ministries and church buildings will come with time, but a church is most importantly the people, and the people of Christ Church are committed to having a church built on the solid foundation of Jesus Christ and the truth of his inspired word.

We are a Reformed congregation...

committed to the biblical doctrine and practices of the Protestant Reformation which are still expressed in conservative Presbyterian churches today. While we certainly believe in the inerrancy of the Bible, the historic doctrines of the Trinity and the incarnation of God’s Son, and the essential message of the Gospel which calls all people to believe in Jesus Christ for eternal life, our doctrinal commitments are found in the Westminster Confession and Catechisms which give a full picture of biblical Christian faith. Christ Church belongs to the Orthodox Presbyterian Church and the regional body of the Presbytery of Philadelphia.

We joyfully enter corporate worship...

as the most important thing we do every week. Our worship services are offered up to the Lord God, who is worthy of all glory both now and forever, but what makes our approach unique is our commitment to biblical worship. We believe that a focus on biblical worship is pleasing to the Lord (John 4:24) and edifying to Christian believers (2 Timothy 3:16-17), and so there is a more reverent tone to the service (Hebrews 12:28).

We are led by elders...

which is the defining characteristic of any Presbyterian church. Elders are chosen and ordained only for meeting biblical qualifications (listed in 1 Timothy 3:1-7) which are recognized by the congregation. As a mission work, Christ Church receives borrowed elders oversight from the OPC Presbytery of Philadelphia which has delegated the work to the session of Emmanuel OPC in Wilmington, DE. The Emmanuel session includes Pastor Michael Matossian, Pastor David Landow, Tom Crumplar (ruling elder), Tim Krizan (ruling elder), Pete Veenema (ruling elder), Todd Palmer (ruling elder), and Kevin Shaw (ruling elder). When the Downingtown OPC congregation is able to particularize as their own congregation in the future, that landmark will require the ordination and installation of her own elders from the congregation.

Pastor Greg O’Brien

Originally from Austin, Greg came to saving faith as a young adult. While a student at the University of Texas at Austin he met his wonderful wife, Ginger, and they have been serving the Lord together ever since. Both Greg and Ginger attended Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in Massachusetts, and Greg was first ordained in the PCA as a foreign missionary in East Asia and also served as an Assistant Pastor in a PCA congregation in Tuscumbia, Alabama. Greg was installed as the church planter for Christ Church in October of 2018, and the O'Briens now live in the Lionville area of nearby Exton, PA.
